Royal Caroline 1/47 Panart bashed by NMBrook

You are doing an unbelievable job, Nigel! I think your patience and precision are one of a kind. I wish I have seen your job before I made my Caroline... would have done quite a lot differently. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) we just can't go back and build the same ship so many times...
So, short, hats off!
Janos

Thankyou Brian and Janos for your kind words. You could build the same ship over and over Janos but there isn't really any fun in that:).Plus I bet if you were to build her again, you would start from scratch knowing what we both know regarding the kit's inaccuracies to the book.

Kind Regards

Nigel

I think I was inviting him before,we can try again, but I think he is not building anything at the moment.
I am sure, we all will benefit even from a single log of one of his model builds in the past. Just a beautiful model, indeed.

Unfortuneately many of Nino's pics are now offline.Zoly is correct that he isn't working on anything at the moment,he seems to be focusing his spare time on fishing and scuba diving.I haven't been in contact with him since just after he finished L'Ambiteaux.

Kind Regards

Nigel

I then turned my attention to the stairs at the front of the main cabin. The outside of the spiral stairs was wade by laminating two layers of pear veneer clamped around a Perspex rod. This gave me the required curved piece which formed the outside. The rest was just a case of cutting out and assembling pieces of more pear veneer,The small step to the cabin roof was also made from veneer,

I also made up the two small panelled doors that go either side of the cabin. These are two layers with the top layer made up of pieces to create the panelled effect,The whole lot and the gun carriages then went through the finishing and ageing process previously described.

This is pretty brilliant technique on the stairs. I will be incorporating this in the future. ‘Had been puzzling over how to make these easily and well.

Amazing work on this model, Nigel. Funnily enough, I came to it obliquely; I was searching “scratch-built L’Ambiteaux,” which brought up Nino’s pictures, but they were embedded in your log. What’s the current status of this build?
