INDISCRET Xebec- Aeropiccola-1/40 : by Neophyte Shipwright

Yes Chebec, Xebec or other name are popular ship. And the lines are so beautiful I did the Corel one I have a build somewhere here.
A hard part to do are the cheek at the stern but I think that on your model you do not have them that is the part I am pointing

You mention that you have also start another build the HMS Terror from OcCre you are a true ship builder many project at the same time:D:D:D

Hope that will help you
And here a small YT of this summer of Parks Canada on the wreck of the Terror
Aeropiccola took a different approach to the stern. They molded the cheeks from the plastic wood allowing you to not have to stress over making these complex curved parts. So if you had to make them, my hat off to you sir. As for the type/name of the vessel, there are many but I like and use Chebec/xebec. And I agree, the lines of the hull just say speed. As for the HMS Terror, it is on hold. Not because I am stumped by anything, I have started planking the deck w/pear and need to order some about 1/2 the width of the center boards. Besides you are aware of how the deck was laid out in a herringbone pattern.

Small up date. I am still slugging away at the initial frame work. Nothing has matched up so far. Each and every piece has required some attention. But alas she is coming together. I will post a photo when I have completed and all glued up. Just wanted to let yall know I was still working away at this beauty.

Well it has been awhile for this project. I ran into a slight road block in the framing department, but I used good ole country boy engineering to get past it. I am gluing all the frame work up now and will post some photos soon. I have put it on a shelf a couple of times and thought I might not get it framed. This is a different kind of hull for me and has been a pita for my skills. But I just can not let this one slide by and not build, I like it too much.

Hate to report today, frame fell and for some unknown reason, it split right down the center, old dried wood I guess. The damage is way more than I want to fool with to repair. So this puppy has been laid to rest. Lesson learned, do not use old wood from a dated kit. Sorry, will move on to something else.

Hi, as Uwe mentioned please share a picture, most probably it can be repaired or replaced with some minor scratch build work.

Sorry guys, but in a fit of disbelieve and just dumb temper, I finished her off with a kick across the room! I knowo_O. Then before the trash truck ran this morning, I deposited into the can. The wood split straight down the keel and most of the frames split as well. I have never had any wood do this before! I gave some serious thought to at the start replacing all wood/parts w/new. The kit had a date on the plans for the early 80's and I believed the wood would be ok? I will never again use old wood from a eBay buy. I have spent the day pouting over this. I have been looking at maybe a start on a Bluenose, but right now, bummed out. Thanks for your comments and I wished I had of just set it aside, I struggled w/the framing because of the old wood while building, both stern filler blocks gave me a fit, they kept splitting when I tried to saw the shape required. I set the kit aside for awhile and came up with a solution for that and was ready to lay the upper planks when this happened. So, onward and upward as the saying goes. Oh and too anyone reading, attach your Amati Keel Camp to something, is very easy to send flying off the table if you are clumsy!

Uggghhh, it has happened to all of us I am sure!!! Grab something else from your stash and dive back in!!
Well now that you gave such sage advice, I will follow your lead. I have ordered a AL Bluenose II #22453 and a copy of L.B. Jensen, Bluenose II Saga of the Great Fishing Schooner. I went w/this kit not for any particular reason, Billing Boats has and so does Model Shipways. This is how today has gone. I was going for the Model Expo version and for some reason it would not complete. I have had a issue with my Bank and orders made to Fla. before! So I stopped there with that buy! I really love Billing Boat kits, but the size of theirs is a beast and I just already have enough of big kits. I also looked at the 600 series and I have never liked the build in half and join. And last but least, eBay. I found this kit from $180.00 +NC sales tx + ship to $139.00. So, I have a practum using a AL kit, a book of drawings and a AL kit to build from. Merry Christmas to me:). So today started w/Murphy, but it did not end w/Murphy's law! Well except w/my bank and Hollywood Fla!

Coming soon: build thread AL Bluenose II

Well received the AL kit, what a piece of junk, made in China, the wood laser cut looked like a blow torch had been used to cut. No plans and or written instructions. The detail parts were ok but not up to todays standards. Was sorely disappointed in the kit so returned for a refund. And I absolutely hate it when you get a CD for instructions. I kinda understand now why AL has gone belly up. I recently seen a AL HMS Victory for $1100.00 . What, and the guy admits the price is because the kit is no longer available! That is the part of this Hobby that sucks. I have built this version and I will tell you now, I would be hard pressed to give over a couple of hundred dollars for it. But the Victory Models version, way better and worth what you pay! So I have amassed material for a Bluenose build, so Model Shipways it will be.

Hello neighbor!!! Cheer up and good luck on the Bluenose!! Here is my old build log of Bluenose from the Model Shipways kit if its of any help to you.

Howdy friend, what a wonderfully built piece of art. I have always liked the sleek lines of the Bluenose. Read the complete thread and enjoyed it much. I have amassed reference material for the Bluenose II and am looking at the smaller Billing Boats kit. Though it is built in 2 halves, I believe one might be able to pull off a decent build. Plus I live in a Town Home and space for ships is at a premium. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. My week has been crappy so far until your post cheered me up. I ordered a set of plans from the UK for the Cutty, got them Monday, the same day I returned the kit. They were shipped in a thin walled card box and had been crushed and twisted. I received a book on the Bluenose, the mailman folded it and placed into the mail slot instead of the package area! Now both items that were for reference can still be used I guess, I am not a fan of folded books, mess's up the drawings! The Cutty plans have been replaced and are on their way in a card tube I hope. Again thanks for the thread and hope you have a great day'
