I found an presumibly American site (they are chinese) selling ZHL Misticque with a discount of 59% and another discount on top of that one giving a final price of around 113€ with port free.

It is too good to be true, and of course it is a scam, if you google by the name of the site you find no references what is strange, of course, but if you google by theie email address with will discover a lot of people who have been scammed. They also don't have Paypal what is a sign on itself

The name of the site is QLOYGUJCSTORE but they create new sites with new names regularly. so beware.

I confess that I was tempted, until I gave them a good checking.

No, but google their email address: customerservicesglobal

and the offer for the kit is here:

I found the same sort of "deals" one kit I was researching went from $169 all the way down to $59 with free shipping.

we may need to have a topic of scams and lies.
this kit I was looking for had no less that 5 outlets selling the same kit. my thoughts is stick with well known sites like Ebay they check into any bad deals, scams or products that were not delivered.

I think that it may be a very good idea to have a topic like that.

because we are becoming an international center for the hobby and growing faster than we ever thought and the market place is now far from that local hobby shop of days gone by. I will discuss this with the team and see what they think.

Interesting - they certainly have a comprehensive website. Reminds me of Banggood, which is ligit. Seems that anyone who orders anything from these customerservicesglobal sites get a cheap scarf instead of what they ordered!

Not that I plan on buying anything from here, but I am curious why some of you think this is a scam? Not all sites advertise on Google. This is an international shopping site that looks legit to me. Just because they have good prices, a strange name, and not on Google doesn’t mean they are a scam. I am not disagreeing, just trying to understand your thought process. Any of you experienced issues here? If not, then why the accusation?

Search google and you will find lots of complaint.

I could find no complaints regarding this international shopping site. Not sure where you guys are getting this info. But I appreciate your concern. I heard similar comments regarding taobao and aliexpress ... both are also legit.
Sorry to disagree but I believe we should be fair and open here.

Now why would American Express allow somebody with questionable reputation use their payment plan ???

Thanks JL. I finally found the complaints you were referring to. But in any case, all major credit cards will provide refunds without even talking to the vendor. Amex, Visa, etc.. no way to get ripped off if using them. I would also mention that ALL shopping vendors get complaints. Doesn’t mean they are scams.. strong word.

aye on trustpilot.com there are negative reviews of various companies who use the customerservicesglobal.com for customer services - they all received a scarf instead of what was ordered and were then offered a 35% refund. I suppose you would have to click on the amex payment option and see what happens. The twitter and facebook links are blind
There's always the caveat that happy customers never complain of course.

Mike, unfortunately I feel we live in the era of "buyer beware" when dealing with some sites on the web, its best to do a quick check for feedback just in case.

You don't feel that ordering anyway because you'll get an auto refund from your card company is taking some responsibility from the buyer.
Please don't feel I am in any way criticizing you, it's just we have to treat most stuff on the web as "too good to be true" ripoffs these day's.

(bring back the good old day's when robbers used to just use a mask and a gun to take your hard earned cash) End of rant!

Two days ago I put them a question asking if they sell to Portugal and if they are sure that the shipping is free. In my experience every seller that I've contacted answered within a day or less. They didn't repply.

In my humble opiniom this is a scam, and I'm not going to bet 113€ to get a scarf. I know thera are scarfs more expensive than that but I don't believe this is the case.

True that happy customers don't complain, but a site without any comment? You find nothing about them googling the name of the site. Isn't that strange?

I've learned by other people experience to only buy in trusted online stores. This is not the case.

Totally agree with you guys about being careful buying from the web. But just because they don’t answer an email or have some complaints does not mean they are a SCAM. If so, Amex, Visa, MasterCard would not do business with them. I worked in the banking industry for over 20 years. Credit card companies have sophisticated fraud departments to protect consumers. I personally have never been scammed in a secure online purchase. Have you? Electronic transactions are protected...you can’t get robbed. Sorry.

So, if you give them your credit card number and they charge your account and then you discover that it is a fake because they sent you a scarf, for instance, how are you gonna rehave your money? Visa or Mastercard or whatever are going to debit their account and put the money back in your account?
I have never been scammed also, but because I am very careful where I buy my stuff, not because credit card companies have any sort of filter to protect me.

I found this article quite interesting. I have emailed a “company” a few times with no response. They have prices that are quite appealing to this Canadian. How do I prempt getting burnt? In previous years if I left 2 messages for a business to call me back and they didn’t I would assume that they didn’t want my business. How do we handle this nowadays?

we can look at this also from a company point of view. Even at the Lumberyard it might take days to get back to a customer because we are a small mom and pop business and the owner EV also works another job. It is not that we do not want your business but we are doing the best we can. This might be an issure with many small operations.
it is not like small businesses have a staff of people standing by for customer services.

how can we handle this?

good question

maybe start by offering back rounds of some of these businesses who they are, what they do, are they a small artisan shop, a mom and pop operation, a multi million dollar world class operation.

this hobby of static model ship building is way down the list of hobbies so it can not support big business, most companies are small with a limited people running the show
