I am doing the masts a little like the Endeavor. I like the way those look. I am waiting for some stain coming from Europe to finish the other wood parts.

All the chain plates look to be vertical in the photo above. I am not familiar with whalers, thus my question, were whalers different than other ships where the chain plates were in line with the shrouds?

Can any one out there explain “reef points” on sails? What eras were they used? How many? How long? Placement,etc.?
 
One of the nice things about these wooden ship is… when something is not quite right, it can be repaired or improved it you will

Top picture is the port side. Lower picture is the starboard side. After tying 26 deadeyes I can see the last ones look a lot neater than the first ones. After all that effort I decided to re-do the first on the foremast.
