Batavia 1628 (1:72) Kolderstok Build log

The update for week 12-2026.

Thanks for the likes and your comments.

Over the past week, I have been busy with the topgallant shrouds on both sides.
And with installing the main topmast stay. (the Batavia does not have a preventer stay according to the manual)
For the latter, I had previously placed the loop around the foremast, attached a single block to it, and then the tackle to that.
( 2 photos from early August 2025. Different quality  )

With sufficient length, which has now been used to guide the stay via a double block and a single block above the topmast of the foremast to the top of the main topgallant shrouds.
Naturally, via a loop with a mouse. The tackle is secured to the middle pin of the foremast pin rail. (I do not know the English name)

Continuing with the main topgallant shrouds. First, I tensioned all the tackles of the deadeye blocks and secured them with seizings.
Then, I started on the ratlines on the starboard side.
The photos shows the state as of this morning.

The piece of paper ensures that I only see the ratlines and the shrouds.
Otherwise, it gets very crowded behind them. ;)

The coming week will probably consist entirely of attaching the ratlines and installing the two futtock staves for the topgallant shrouds.

Have a great building week, everyone.

Continued with the main topgallant shrouds ratlines on the starboard side. This is now finished, including the futtock stave.

Next, I started with the port side.
The following photo shows the view as it is this morning.

I have fitted the flagpoles at height with "Reminder" flags. Before you know it, that part will be breaking off again.
Now you can see that something is there. ;)
I also fitted the cannons with clips. These stick out, along with the hatches above them.
I had already knocked a hatch off 3 times with the most unexpected movement.
Now I hit the clips instead of the hatch.

The coming week will consist of finishing the main topgallant shrouds ratlines on the port side and installing the 4 backstays.

Have a great building week, everyone.

The update for week 14-2026.

Wishing everyone a Happy Easter. (Here in Greece, Easter is next weekend this time)

Continued working on the main topgallant shrouds on the port side.
This is now also finished, including the futtock stave.
Also started on the main backstays, 2 of which are now attached and tensioned. However, not all seizing are on yet.

In the meantime, I also started "re-installing" blocks on the stays.
Initially, two were already mounted on the main stay, but I later noticed on another drawing that the rope starts at the block.
That is why I redid this. Starting with the mainmast. So, for each side.
And instead of one single block (drawing 6), I made one double block (drawing 8).
Without sails, one single block is probably enough there.
Because the rope starts at the block, I immediately attached 70cm of rope to it, which later runs back to the block via a fiddle block on the yard and then to the deck to be secured. If I am correct.

And just made a roll and attached it to the shroud.

Next week I will continue with the Backstays.
Probably attach some blocks as well, since I can still easily reach them now.

Have a great building week everyone.
