    HMS Erebus de Ocre

I continued gluing the frames, taking my time, while I planked the deck. Now I'm making a "bed" to fit five planks into and put them on the saw at a 30-degree angle so they all end up at the exact angle. I have to say that this time I tried using a black marker for caulking, and I didn't like it...

HMS ONTARIO - A MARISSTELLA WOODEN SHIP KIT

Very nicely done Jose'. I am working on the earlier version of this ship. The Updates I notice are good changes . This Transom area for my skills I am fineing most difficult, but I am hanging in ,having pulled it apart once to fit properly with the upper deck and windows. Still on it but getting...

HMS ONTARIO - A MARISSTELLA WOODEN SHIP KIT

Good morning Jose. Those treenails look pretty good to me. I’m having a similar problem with my planks and it does get frustrating sometimes. Lovely work. Cheers Grant

HMS ONTARIO - A MARISSTELLA WOODEN SHIP KIT

Hi, I finished the treenails on the gun deck. It served mainly as practice, since, for the most part, it will covered by the upper deck and will not be visible . I was planning to apply dark wood filler between the deck planks to simulate caulking, but decided not to. The planks are too close...

    Yacht Vida Mia - 1929 - 1/33 - Scratch from photos

As promised, here is the continuation of the construction. The yacht's deck is constructed with 2x2 mm walnut slats. Between each slat, I glue a strip of black paper to simulate caulking. The deck is finished here : The plywood structure is covered with cherry veneer: Everything is...

    BONHOMME RICHARD, Cross Section

Thank you Kurt !! I do not plan to add any caulking at the upper deck.

    BONHOMME RICHARD, Cross Section

Keep this progress up and soon you will be ready for the upper deck! I know the lower decks don't have caulking but what do you plan to use on simulated sealing of upper deck planks?

    Le Requin-Zebec-1750 POF 1:48 (ZHL)

By the looks of it you have a working solution, yielding very promising outcome. I wish the same decking method, with pre-cut planks, would have been available for the Bluenose model; it sure would have beaten the printed decks.

    Le Requin-Zebec-1750 POF 1:48 (ZHL)

Good morning Daniel. This deck is a thing of beauty when it is done. The tapered planks and curves give so much character. Looking good so far. Cheers Grant

    Le Requin-Zebec-1750 POF 1:48 (ZHL)

OK here is my proof of application as I see it. If the rest of the decking goes this well, I'll be happy. The first pic showing glue down with my weighted helpers. This ship will be my first to show deck nails, nothing fancy just 0.6mm copper wire inserted into 0.6mm holes. I lightly sanded...

HMS ONTARIO - A MARISSTELLA WOODEN SHIP KIT

Good morning Jose. I hope you had a great Christmas. Nice deck planking, the pattern is real good. I model like you do. If it’s going to be covered up there is no need for it to be neat and tidy- just right ROTF. The rear of the transom is looking mighty fine. Cheers Grant

HMS ONTARIO - A MARISSTELLA WOODEN SHIP KIT

Hello! I hope all of you had a great Christmas Season. My Ontario build is slowly progressing. The first phase of the gun deck planking is complete. All the planks were glued to the veneer. It will now have to be sanded, the spaces between planks filled with dark wood filler paste to simulate...

HMS Alert [1777] 1:48 POF by serikoff. (Two hulls: skeleton and fully rigged)

Everything is ready for gluing. I glued it with TiteBond II... Then I glued on the temporary waterway, or rather, the second part of it. I applied it to the CA gel in dots so that I could remove it later. After that, I sanded the surface first with 120-grit sandpaper, then with 150-grit...

HMS ONTARIO - A MARISSTELLA WOODEN SHIP KIT

I also started to build the gun deck. Glued the veneer in place and started planking. The strips supplied are a bit to wide (5mm) and do not align with the pattern laser engraved on the veneer. I had to sand them ~0.15 mm in order to fit. To do it in a repeatable way (lots of planks to sand...)...

    What is your suggestion for....

suggesting wood is a tricky subject because it depends on your location. Where i am, in an hours drive i can find a dozen sawmills and a huge variety of Appalachian Hardwoods, some of the best in the world. I have some very fine Black Cherry which is not black the bark looks black in a woods of...

HMS Alert [1777] 1:48 POF by serikoff. (Two hulls: skeleton and fully rigged)

Deck. Waterway. I'll start with the theory and drawings. In order: 1. First, I plan to attach the deck boards (marked with a red rectangle), fitting them to the waterway at the same time. 2. The waterway will be divided into two parts. The first part (turquoise rectangle) will be attached...

    HMS Beagle 1/60

Thanks again DAWarden. I am afraid you lost me here. I am only a first year student when it comes to ships, and a lot of the shiplore jargon still baffles me. However, if I am required to make changes to the deck to be more accurate, I will pass on that approach for this build. If I were...
