Sergal Cutty Sark scale 1:78 Robertd [COMPLETED BUILD]

Just watched some very informative and sailing experiences on YouTube of the real thing with her competitor Thermopylae on the Wool run from Australia to England and earlier on on the Tea run , hence the name Tea Clippers but obsolete and made redundant by steamships and the opening of the Suez...

    Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark

...U.S.S. Constitution which I am working on. Waiting under my bed are U.S.S Kearsarge; C.S.S. Alabama; U.S.S. United States; Clipper ship Thermopylae. I think the Cutty Sark is going to be my biggest problem due to the warped and broken masts. If anyone has a technique for repairing these...

    Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark

Well, this is turning into a build thread for both Revell models. My son Jay is taking on the Cutty Sark, and I’m building the Thermopylae.. Fun time painting the hull and the deck tonight. Apparently Testors no longer produces Model Master Enamel paints anymore. The Thermopylae is missing the...

    Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark

Funny thing. I also found a Revell Thermopylae. Says it’s 1/70. Opened the box. I’ve seen that hull before. Aside from being molded in a sick green color, it’s the SAME hull as the Cutty! The Cutty port half matches the Thermopylae Starboard half!!! Go figure.

    Mantua/Sergal President MA792 1:60

...from electronics shop to shipyard, I'm ready to start build #2! President was actually my second choice, as I really wanted to build Thermopylae, but it was persistently our of stock, so I gave in to the itch and purchased President. Of course, right after, Thermopylae was once again...

I have most of the books on Thermopylae, by McGregor, Lubbock, Hume, Crosse etc. I have been trying to redraw the Scientific plans, to coincide more with the Hume models, and McGregor’s...

    Greetings from Victoria BC

also from my side a warm welcome here on board of our forum. Hope to see your work on the clippers..... are you intent to build a kit (maybe the Sergal / Mantua kit of the Thermopylae) or scratch?

I have also built a number of ships (Mantua's Thermopylae (my first ever wooden ship model some 20 yrs ago), Amati's Roger B. Taney, some Billing boats kits, Amati's Robert E Lee (in the works), and most...

Thermopylae ihas a round stern. This ship if not the actual predates composite tea clippers. It's a great model by the way

Its a plank on frame model, so its not a kit. It could be any tea clipper. Have a look at the Thermopylae. It looks very similar.

    Hello

...going on. Such tiny print. Rather daunting. Well I finished the dory from M/S, took me awhile to do, this is my first since the plastic Thermopylae fifty years ago. Now I have cataracts, but the nerve damage in my hands is better for now. I’ve bought two new kits and waiting not very...

Glory of the Seas, medium clipper in 1/96 by rwiederrich

Thanks Brian. Research research research . There’s a couple of hull drawings of the Thermopylae that one could build a good scale hull out of. , but the rest is scratchy . I have some great pictures of a masterfully created model of her I’ll post later.

Beautiful work, and excellent research. I'm contemplating scratch building the Thermopylae in 1/64 scale, but not a lot of plans out there. cheers Brian.
