Airfix Golden Hind 1/96 - First REAL ship build

Yes indeed, the stern panel was a steep learning curve, but fun. :)

Airfix Golden Hind 1/96 - First REAL ship build

Thought about the fading. Wondering if a coat of Krylon matte would help prevent fading. I found that Krylon matte is enamel based so works good over acrylic. They also make a Workable Fixative that is also matte finish, but it's water based for going over enamels.

Airfix Golden Hind 1/96 - First REAL ship build

...So far, so good! I've used pens from various companies, & have found it pays to buy the best you can get! Models like the Cutty Sark, Thermopylae, & Sea Witch were done 4-5 yrs. ago, & show no signs of fading. I also used some cheap acrylic paints I bought from Michael's, & haven't had a...

    Revell Cutty Sark

...job! I have built this model Cutty Sark & finished a 1960 Revell Thermopyae last year. After doing some research, I found that the Thermopylae was plated with Muntz metal, most likely, so I ran 2 coats of Testors brass paint over the copper. It was hard to see a difference until the afternoon...

HMS Fly (Amati) 1:64 Robertd [COMPLETED BUILD]

exactly ! not only that only 2 windlasses on this ‘Fly’ so all of it. to be man handled and extra work with the Stunsails , the ‘Cutty Sark and Thermopylae used to have them , but with so many accidents and extra crew required they abandon them ,just not worth it

    G'day from Australia

...all the maritime history here. Having the Shipwreck Coast I loved the fascination of sail and the Cutty Sark. I built the Revell 1:96 and Thermopylae, then bought IMAI plank on frame with big plans to put it into a bar. But that never eventuated. Still have it in a box, plans a little silver...

Revell Cutty Sark 1:96 with 3D printed modifications

Rob, I built loads of planes back then but only one ship, the Endeavour. I loved that kit, was immensely proud of what I made at the time, but after a family of spiders took up residence my mum made me get rid of it! At this age it would be a bit of a challenge to work at that scale, hence a...

Revell Cutty Sark 1:96 with 3D printed modifications

I first built this model some 50 years ago, in my teens. And Thermopylae as well. I have bought the kit again to rekindle my modelling passion and use it and others, both plastic and wood as my skills return and learn new ones for my retirement years. Way back then I had plans to build a wood...

Help Identify the ship in this painting

Thermopylae also does not match because of her split topsails, so Ariel too the rig of Taeping is more of a match, although many pictures show her with scrolls on the bow i would also vote for the generic boat

Help Identify the ship in this painting

...would be around 400US. Usually titled 'A Wndjammer in a ....etc' or something similar without the ship being identified, so possibly a generic tea clipper. Thermopylae didn't have a figurehead as far as I remember. It's not Cutty Sark's figurehead, Ariel has a more ornate bow, so I guess Taeping?

Help Identify the ship in this painting

The green hull and the clipper rig suggests Thermopylae to me.

    Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark

I am also building the Thermopylae. I think I built the Cutty Sark 3 times through college in the 60s. A couple of years ago I bought both Thermopylae and Cutty Sark on eBay before prices skyrocketed. I ended up using both kits to build one ship. Some of the parts, especially masts, we’re...
