1/30 Royal Caroline build plans

Not sure which Royal Caroline you want but there are 4 contemporary plans for the Royal Caroline 1750 (later renamed Royal Charlotte 1761, on the RMG Collections site. The written descriptions on the plans are in English.

Allan...just saw your question regarding the keel extension...in reading build logs, I read there was an issue with the plans..that the hull was @ 15 mm too short to accommodate the relief carvings..the fix to lengthen the keel or shorten the reliefs..also, the gunport openings would also not line up... I was studying various 1/30 scale RC build logs (Neptune etc al )and saw this issue..perhaps the radius of the bow not factored into the equation? haven't begun the build, just trying to preempt any problems. Hope this helps

If your kit was purchased recently I would suggest comparing your carving layout plans with the others.
I purchased my kit early this year and everything matches exactly with the exception of the gunport pattern, this is way out.

G'day i replied on one of your other posts,

best regards John,

G'day Jeremy, on the Pear wood kit i bought and built and also on the Boxwood kit that i'm going to build, they show the carving plan at a slightly larger scale than the general drawings, could you post a photo of them both together

The general drawing top with the carving drawing below it, you can see the difference in size,

and with the carving drawing moved up over the general drawing,

best regards John.

G'day Jeremy, I was asking the question about the size difference between the general plan's and the carvings plan because in the first RC kit I bought approx seven years ago to make up the rigging blocks you had to glue the blocks together but in this Boxwood version they are milled out of one piece, also for the mast Tops you had to make them up but in later kits the top was cut out of one piece, so I'm just wondering if they have reduced the size of the carvings to better fit the construction plan's, would be interesting to know,
Thankyou, best regards John,

did you come to one of our meetings in Naples?
Yep, I did come to a couple of them. Great group of guys there! I would come more often but I help run a Saturday golf group that keeps me busy on Saturdays. I would like to come out again soon though.

Thanks Allan, Neptune and Jeremy..this what I was seeing on your build forums..haven;lt started yet ,just did not want problems further into build...I can Google translate the instructions, but awkward. I"ve scratchbuilt a frigate Navy Board style, done the Confederacy ,so I can build with plans and pictures, those are fine but written English instructions would facilitate the build..Neptune, if you want to sell them. let me know.. I"m in NY.. til Jan, then FL. Recovering from prostate surgery. Allan..I KNEW IT!..You came to Landmark...club moving forward nicely. at Moorings Park. I think I was working on the Confederacy when you were there. OK, back to RC, Allan, in Bellabarba "s book, he says the RC was built in 1749, Deptford. Rechristened the Royal Charlott e in 1761 , if that helps. So you guys are saying to superimpose the carving plan on the hull plan and they should be the same..concerned about the gunport alignment issue..gotta check the plans I guess.

OK.. so I superimposed the carving plan on the side plan and used various reference points, comparing the two, the gunports are off by @15mm and the windows @20mm. I assume the plans are the same scale, but loa of each is way off I am reluctant to extend the length of the keel, maybe just compromise on the reliefs and make sure the windows and gunports are in alignment..open to comments, ideas and criticism!
