1/30 Royal Caroline color confliction

Hi Manning16
My wife has brought me the Royal Caroline pearwood version 1:30 scale for Christmas can't wait to open up the boxes Christmas day, So I will be watching your progress closely to see how the 20-25mm extra length turns out as I have not decided yet, I will be gilding my caving's using a dark wash to bring out the detail as I like this look. I think I will also be using a Bee's wax finish. Once started I will start a build log and post. Good luck in your build watching closely.

hello anchor- what a wife! she's a keeper..I
have to learn to post..Neptune, Maarten, and others have ex build logs fyi.. haven;t started the RC yet. waiting on neptune's final measurement for keel extension.. .finished queen;s launch and the table and chairs, etc for queen;s quarters..sorry, no caps..typing with one hand Back in the 70's, I spent a few summers in the west end of London...37 Lancaster Rd off Portobello Rd..was there when the Notting hill riot was on,
.. spent four days barricaded on the 4th floor flat..scary time, but west end was fun at the time..

Neptune..got bored with rigging cannons so I added 35 mm to the keel..I plan to use the supplied stem veneer as it looks ok..what did you taper the stem to on first RC build

For RC the dimensions may be slightly different, but for other English ships of similar size the stem is tapered from the top down from about 12" at the head to about 8 inches at the boxing joint to match the keel. The knee of the head tapered fore and aft as well as from the top down. The knee of the head went from about 10" at the stem to about 3" or 4" at the fore part. It tapered as it went down to the same thickness of the stem.
An example below for an earlier ship may explain better.

The following shows the various names of the parts of the knee of the head. The shapes of the parts varied a lot for various years and ship size.
