2027 is only a couple months away and I've been toying with what kits to develop next. Here are some that have crossed my mind: 1/192 EDMUND FITZGERALD (45"); 1/48 Higgins PT (19.5"); 1/96 three-masted East Coast lumber/coal schooner (~36"); 1/96 Civil War USS HARTFORD (28"); 1/96 Civil War USS MONITOR (22"); 1/96 Civil War CSS VIRGINIA (34"). There are others, of course. All would be plank on bulkhead with extensive laser-work. Your thoughts? Suggestions?

It seems to me that SS Edmund Fitzgerald would be a poor choice for POB type construction. Her long parallel middle body would require perhaps dozens of bulkheads to support the planking and then since she had a welded steel hull there would need to be some sort way to hide the planking. Maybe paper plating glued to the planking. If the planked hull is just painted there will always be the probably that the plank seams will emerge later in life. She also has full lines fore and aft hard for novice builders to plank.

If I were designing this kit I would furnish three pieces to be built into a U shaped mid body. The sheer would be cut into the two side pieces. I would also supply two machine carved pieces; one for the bow and one for the Stern. Each would have a plug type extensions fit into the middle body.
