Hello model makers,

Just wondering if anyone has experience using 3M transfer tape or decal tape? I'm referring to the very thin double-sided tape—about 0.05mm thick. I've been experimenting with it to fix 4mm decking onto plywood.

The process is the same as usual: I mark the edges black and use a jig to drill treenail holes. But instead of messy PVA glue, I position the planks directly onto the tape. You do need to be accurate with your placement, but it's been working quite well for me.

The specific tape I'm using is 3M 465-13.

Cheers,
Ridley

I tried to use 3M transfer tape to bond .005” thick brass shim stock to simulate hull shell plating on my current project. It didn’t work. The corners lifted. I put the model aside for a couple of years. When I started again the plates peeled off easily. This was probably 7-8 years ago and of course everything evolves so the tape that you’re looking at may be better. Also, if you’re bonding wood to wood it might work better. Unfortunately, the only thing that I remember is that it was 3M.
