According to my notes (i.e. I can't remember where I got it from) Course yards had slings & truss pendants; the others had parrals. Is this correct? (French early 19th century)

The rope hoops that bind the lower mast sections and forestay - would they have been tarred as permanent immovable cordage?
Thanks

I assume that the use of parrels was based on the weight of the yard making it easier to haul up or down. The second part of your question is probably yes, they would have treated it w tar.
but even though I like to consider myself a little knowledgeable about rigging, the more I realize I do not know near enough. Their is always someone that will know more.
