Hello all. I'm Ashley. I joined this excellent forum and community a short time ago as after many, many years, I finally got around to starting up with an old hobby I truly missed for too many years. The years passed with little time and conditions that did not permit the building of model ship and similar.

Finally I set my heart on Pavel's Oseberg. I considered many other water craft before my final kit selection. Originally I'd built from bought plans many years ago. Never before a kit like what can be built these days. I feel great excitement as I await delivery from the Ukraine.

I have now spent a great deal of time reading on this forum and find the users to be a great group of people so willing to help other ship builders. I'm delighted to be a member and hope I can eventually contribute even if only in a small way.

… in a galaxy far away?

Hi Ashley, I’m pleased to meet you.

Olá Ashley,
You'll find a huge wealth of knowledge and assistance here for any questions, and photo's that are inspirational.

Welcome

J

Good day All,
I am Johan from Pretoria, South Africa and retired recently. I only joined this excellent forum a few hours ago and at very young age I was fascinated by wooden sail ships. I finally purchased my first built end of 2023, the HMS Bounty 1783 scale 1:48. I was hooked and the Montanes 1794 scale 1:70 followed. The next built was the Flying Dutchman and completed in March 2025. The next built will start soon, the HMS Victory, the unmatchable no 814/999 by Occre.
I am privileged to be part of a group of highly skilled ship builders and hope I can contribute to this forum.

Welcome to the forums !

May I thank all of you for the warm welcome. It makes me feel as though I belong within a great community of enthusiastic ship modellers.

Ashley.

Hi Ashley, welcome to the forum! I am also building Oseberg. If you haven't been there yet, the link to my build log is in my signature box below. I hope you decide to make your own log. I'll look forward to seeing your progress.

Thank you Russ. It's a long time since I built a model. I feel a little afraid of having a build log as it has been so long and maybe, I'd feel a little foolish with my efforts. That said, I shall give it a go even if far from an expert in yhese matters. On another point Tuss, I shall check out your link. Thanks for the mention.
