Here's a little something different I did recently. But first, a bit of background on the why of the project.
We have a 29 year old daughter (Catherine) who has been with her boyfriend (Anthoine) since 2018. They are presently in Europe doing the Compostella walk. Anthoine wants to propose to Catherine at the end of their walk once arrived in Finistère, at the zero kilometer marker. So far, no problem with that. He bought a very nice engagement ring but was affraid to carry it in his backpac for 3 mounths, he could lose it or whorst, Catherine could find it. So bringing the ring was a no go. That's where I stepped in. I 3d modeled a replica of the ring and à mini ring box. Anthoine brought 2 with him in case he lost one and the box being tiny, he was able to hide it effectively. Catherine is an avid Lord of the rings fan, so I designed a ring box with that in mind.
Here's the 3d model of the mini box

And the printed mini box

But it doesn't end there, once they return home, anthoine will give her the real ring. So I made another "Lord of the rings" ring box but full size, complete with suede interior as should be.
Again the 3d model

And the real thing next to the mini

Who said a model had to float, fly or have wheels !!

Great gift and idea. Handmade presents are always priceless and most remembered.
Besides that they can keep Gondor in their hearts;)

Hi all, up date time on this tale.
As you might remember (or not), our daughter got engaged last summer And for the occasion, I printed some fake rings since they were doing this quite far from home. Now, forward more than a year, the big day is in a week. Septembre 27th. For the wedding, our daughter asked me if I would make the the cake. It will be a very small cake just for pictures. Naturally I said yes and following the 'Lords of the rings ' theme, I made a few decorations for the cake. A hobbit door, their names and 2 'lords of the ring' rings intertwined. Note sure how it will all fit together yet.
