Hello All,
"SHIPS FROM TIMES GONE BY"
Back in 2002, I created a website featuring several scratch ship building journals /logs.
Eventually, for unforeseen personal reasons, this “early online documentation” would vanish into thin air, and since then, I have dreamed of finding access to the content of the site; if only for the sake of nostalgia.

Very recently, while watching a news program on TV, I heard of an Internet Archive Library and really, I could not believe it…. Here it was….

The website then created was quite large and still growing at the time. The original section covered the construction of the Oliver Cromwell (from the set of plans drafted by Hann) and the B. Richard (from the monograph published J. Boudriot through ANCRE).

Then, another section of the site contained the “Gros Ventre Group Build Project” with pages showing the construction progress from group members as well as published newsletter representing a documented building log of the ship through the participating members:

The vision was to connect modelers from all over the world to share their work, to get to know each other through the fast growing internet...

I thought the links would be interesting to some. Most of the original site was published in French and English; at least the Gros Ventre Project. And as far as the Gros Ventre section is concerned, it also contains working links to an Italian group as well as documentation from a Russia modeler.

In the end, finding the archived site is a window into the past. It has been over 20 years and the internet was certainly not what it now is.

Best regards.

G.

Fascinating to read that you can “go back in time” and access your journals and logs from over 20 years ago Gilles.

From an initial look, using the links you provided, there is obviously a lot of useful and interesting information. Sadly a lot of the images are not viewable but it could be a limitation of the iPad I’m using. Possibly using the desktop PC will solve this, which I’ll acess later. Regardless posting the links is very much appreciated and of great interest. Thanks.
