Airfix Golden Hind 1:72 ... "very free" conversion to 345 tons Elizabethian galleon of 1:100 ??? just try

Yes Peter ! Indeed ! Agree in 100%

Than there is some kind of personal choice should take place, I mean, how someone wants his model should looks like ?

but there should be some kind of "color scaling " if I could say that...

Here I would like to post some fragments from the book of one of my favorite modeller Ab Hoving, I like very much his point of vew in this respect...

I thought I've posted recently these fragments , but if it will be repeated it couldn't be bad

This galleon features a lateen topsail which is super interesting. This model is one of my favorite models on this forum.

Thanks for the Response. The research article by the talented Mr. Hoving is most enlightening and informative.
I must express my belief that the use of a variety of rare and decorative woods, when creating a ship model, is a matter of artistic license and pride of workmanship. A model need not be a purely documentary reiteration of any given ship, but as well may be a unique artistic expression of aesthetic originality and concept. This is not a vain attempt to pass off the maker's creation as something it is not. I am sure Mr. Hoving, who I hold in the highest regard, would be most understanding.

Interesting remark about latin top sail ! by the way , a few years ago I was busy with that latin top sail as well... tried to find out how it should looks like , Anderson was in that time and still is my bible in all rigging questions :)))

Greetings all looking at the light ...
... somehow everything is slowly going on, but still a little thing is moving ... The greenish color on the stern shield was replaced by the royal blue as colleagues advised, railings and wales in the work still, as well as the decor of the sturncastle will still turn yellow (gilded) In the process ... feed so far so much ... on the model decor is assumed to be with gilding ... Eh, I love this business :)))!
In reality, of course it was different, mostly imitation of gold by suitable colors ... the general concept of coloring and appearance - by the "motives" of this English. Galeon

All the best !!!

Good day,
I want to say that this damn paintings project -a lot of time consuming business , all moves very slowly ... now I think that gallery of arсs with Elizabethian's commanders portraits need to be reworked, to make them more light in appearence... now they looks to heavy compare to balcony arсs
Wish all of you all the best!

Greetings a respected community!
recently I've made some small changes in my project , in the continuation of the story, so to speak -
* slightly increased forecastle height
*raised the beackhead deck - in principle, by this , I've just returned to the original composition of the kit ...
* and refused to reproduce the step in the forward part of the main gun deck ... something, well, it "did not go to me" despite my lovely model of Elizabeth Jonas, either on the famous Baker's galleon drawing , and then,
judging by the drawings and paintings of that period, the step in the nose is not an indispensable attribute at all,
as an example - two pictures, with a step (Galeon Baker) and without ...
But in the stern - as a rule, this deck break was present at many pictures of the galleons and this break of the deck , even well traced up to the middle of the 17th century .... therefore I left the original option ...
*In the on -board decor I added Tudor's colors - white and green ...
So far...
Wish all of you all the best!
