Would anyone be able to tell me what are the correct block and line sizes are to rig
the cannons for the Vanguard Alert kit?
Thanks

For the blocks on the gun tackles, the answer is easy: the smallest ones you can get! Gun tackle blocks on models are typically 3 times too large in kits. Dry-Dock Models & Parts has boxwood blocks, single and double sheave, whoch are 2mm in diameter. Those will work well for yor model. I usually go even smaller and get their smallest 1.5mm blocks and use thread for the gun tackle lines. I stain the blocks with dark walnut Danish Oil, and they get a bit darker, but boxwood is a very fine grain wood, and stain does not darken the color all that much as a result.

Hi David,
Hope you did not order yet and waste your money but small guns like those on Alert would never have had double blocks. Adrian Caruana, who was probably the most knowledgeable person ever regarding English ordnance, was very specific in volume 2 of The History of English Sea Ordnance that double blocks were not used on guns smaller than 32 pounders for either the train tackle or running out tackle,
