A few comments regarding the deck gratings on the Amati xebec model. I believe the deck gratings should be set flush with the ‘deck’ surface. In the actual ships the true deck which was highly cambered was surrounded by a narrow false deck which provided a more level platform for the guns. The gratings allowed water to pass between the false deck and cambered (actual) deck and out through the scuppers. This construction is not called out in the model but it appears that the deck surface shown in the Amati plans represents the deck and false deck as a continuous surface since the camber in the bulkheads is not as severe as depicted in other hull cross sectional drawings (eg Requin). The instructions show the gratings set in a slightly raised frame which I believe to be incorrect. Comments?

Hello Syhobbs,
I am not sure how much Amati's LeRequin is authentic against the actual Xebec, but take a look at the drawings from ANCRE, it definately not flush with the deck, it has a coaming for sure.
