And if so, are you also a fan of their iconic Hicks engines?
I am, and I have two sites that may interest you.
1. Monterey Clippers on Wordpress: Hundreds of photos, plans, history, and more. https://montereyclippers.wordpress.com/
2. A brand new Facebook group page (hey it's easier to maintain), on Hicks engines. I babble a lot there about the Hicks, but have also posted some 125 original Hicks factory drawings there- you can build your own Hicks, just like I did! https://www.facebook.com/groups/852409703922285

Beautiful Hicks model! I had relationships with a couple of Hickses back in the day. One in a big 32' Monterey, built on Fisherman's Wharf by Dominic Labruzzi, I believe. (Ken Labruzzi, Dom's grandson, was still doing boat work out of Colorado Springs as "Harbor Boat Repair," last I heard, but that was maybe fifteen years ago.) The other was installed in a small S.F. Bay scow sloop yacht built by Anderson and Christofani. The latter Hicks was given to Ned Martin, who was restoring the little scow, Squarehead, by Donlon Arques, a Sausalito shipbreaker, who'd kept it "new and still in the crate" in his warehouse for God only knows how long. I'm sure the Monterey went to the knackers maybe forty years ago. Last I heard, Squarehead was berthed in Benicia, CA, and a group of young people, who from all appearances knew squat about boat work, and were trying to raise money online to restore her. It was always great fun to start those Hicks engines. You'd brace your back against the cabin side and kick the flywheel to get it spinning, then throw the compression lever and, if you were lucky, she's start going "ka-thunk, ka-thunk, ka-thunk..." and off you'd go.

Hello, Monterey Clipper fans! I am the owner of a restored '38 fiberglass hull, cruising the waters of San Francisco Bay with classic charm. I recently took the boat to Mexico for fishing, but had to apostille the documents for customs — Official Documents Services in Ontario did it quickly thanks to the Hague Convention. See details here: https://www.legalizationservicecentre.ca/apostille-ontario/. Who else keeps these beauties in working order and knows where to get vintage fittings?

Thanks Bob! Yeah, when I look at the engine installations, I can't even imagine getting in there to kick start the engine. Here's an original owner with his Hicks. The flywheel is forward under his right hand, and barely visible to the left.

This thread got me doing a bit more surfing and I found a picture of Squarehead and the Hicks in her cabin. She has a big sheet metal safety cover over her flywheel, since the engine sits in the middle of the cabin.
