Arnemuiden 1:50 A small Dutch Man-of-war

Hello Roger,

what an interesting project you do.

Besides your Van de Velde source I got the idea of an other small ship PAPEGOJAN of Amsterdam 1627 there is a VdV-drawing:

Quite similar to HEERMSKERK

and there is a card board model that may answer some of your questions:

Hope this helps,

Chris thank you for your idea. The papagojan is indeed a nice ship.

I've got a small update today. Whenever I had spare time I used an orbital sander to sand away the wood I used to fill in between the bulkheads. During this I took care to not sand away any part of the bulkhead, I used the charred edge of the lasercutting for this purpose. In some places I maght have sanded a little too much. But that might be remedied by a little filler at a later stage

Starboard is 80% done and is starting to look shipshape(up to the waterline).
Later I will have to check with battens if the surface is fair.

I've also printed the first batch of guns. I drew the guns in CAD according to drawing made of a real example recovered from a wreck. I'll describe my process once I get back home.

But now its time to interrupt the regularly (un)scheduled saw-dust making and it is time for a bit of field research! For a very long time I've had the idea to join a wooden sailing ship for a sea trip, to really get a feel for the real deal. Alas, since almost every ship from the 17th century is long gone, I had to look for a younger example and ended up signing on with The Tres Hombres.

It will be 10 day trip from Copenhagen to Den Helder in the Netherlands. The ship is engineless and only has the bare electronic essentials. The boat is worked by paying trainees and paid crew.
I will be part of the trainees group.

I made this post on my phone's browser. So hopefully it looks normal on a pc browser.
Thanks for tuning in!

Nice progress, Roger. And ‘real sailing’ on the Northsee is a great experience.
Regards, Peter

Thank you gentlemen! I appreciate the comments very much.
I haven't had much time for modelling since returning from the sailing trip. Right now I'm trying to find a reliable way to process my pear wood into the required dimensions for the Stem and Keel assembly, which is more difficult than I had expected..
