Astrolabe 1812- Mantua-1;50- by Bobby K

And just like that, the starboard side is finished. Five hours to do 294 clove hitches, not bad. And they look good to lol.
On to the crowsfeet lines and the Futtock shrouds 20250314_165238.jpg
Thanks for looking in on the build.

My attempt to make the euphroes blocks for the crowsfeet lines was a small disaster. Lol The smallest my hands could make them were 400% bigger than what I needed. So a call to my good friend who is a wizard at 3-D printing, he told me no problem. That takes care of that problem, now for the bigger problem, I have no room left in the shipyard, this Astrolabe is way bigger than I thought. I have no idea where this will be displayed in the house lol. It is huge.20250319_232607.jpg
It is 33 inchs high and 41 inches long , definately my biggest so far lol. Now I will run all the stays well I am waiting for the Euphroes next week. Then I might Play with the ship's boat and the stern of the ship needs some work. Talk soon.

Today I served 21 feet of line for the forestays , then just run the lines. Tomorrow I will start to tie them on. Then on to the 17 rear stays. Then the crowsfeet lines, so there is lots if rigging to go. I just love this hobby..
Thanks for looking in, shipmates .

I had to do some back tracking on the stays, I needed to tie the upper shrouds frist then the stays. Now I just have to finish all the ratlines, but I am going to go work on the sten for awhile , I have to fix the widows hang the boat and the rudder. As soon as I find the windows the are here some were lol.

20250324_210235.jpg
Plus I did see the ship's boat , it might need a paint job we will see .
The forestays are in place but I am having a hard time understanding the plan, which is different then the manual lol. Plus the new plans from Paris show them with different numbers that don't line up. They have 3 stay lines going to the same block. It's the same for all the masts they show 3 lines to one block, and one stay line and two yardarm lines go to one block.

I will have to figure it all out, but in the mean time all the work on the stren is calling, rigging the rudder adding the blocks lots if fun. Then the back stays, by that time I should have figured out the belaying points.
Talk soon, thanks for your help .

Well I discovered that I should tie the upper ratlines on before the stays . No harm done, just was going to tie all the stays and go back for the ratlines latter. It will be a whole lot easier to do them now. Then I will tie all the stays down. Then either bow or stern , I can't decide but lots if time to make up my mind.

Plenty of room for ratlines. The stays are out of the way.

My very good friend @GabeK has made me these oars, my Captain and my euphroes blocks for the crowsfeet lines, they are fantastic. He does fantastic work, and is busy till next year but like I say he's a good friend so he will squeeze out a "few" figures and things for me when needed. lol.

These are my choices for the future figurehead. The one in the middle is the kit supplied lioark. The two at each end are made by my good friend @GabeK I made one white and one gold, the one in the French museum in Paris is white, but I like the gold lion. And so far I have four votes for gold .Messenger_creation_6255B8EB-98B6-4CA4-8FDA-A65553E31E12.jpeg
Gabe said he could not belive how big this is. He snapped this picture of me making a clove hitche for size. It is about four feet long and close to three feet high.
I know it's big, really hard to move it around, it is on a swivel TV table stand, I just have to be careful when turning it around.20250413_085858.jpg
Going with this golden lion for the figurehead
So I am just letting things dry up, then ratlines on the starboard side of things. We have made a decision on the stays so I will tie them on after the ratlines are finished. Then I will work on the bow, after that a little bit of work on the stren, then it will be the yards and running rigging left. So time to start thinking of my next model, I will know for sure on the 24th of this month . I will let you all know on the 25th which is my next.build.
