Billing Boats 564 Cutty Sark

I have 3 Cutty Sark kits. 2 are Billing Boats, this one 564 and the early version that has a separate fittings kit (which i dont have) and a Artesania Latina version. all three i got as estate sails and two are semi started. The AL one has all the planking done but nothing else and the BB one has the framing done with deck installed but nothing else (no planking) all sitting on the desk pending time to carry on with them.

We are definitely in the same boat! I also have an earlier 1:96 - the one that started it all, but was reluctantly left in the garage 35 years ago when our work took us overseas (the Admiral is a nurse). Other things filled much of the time, and then last year I decided to try again - boat No. 2, 1:75 also Billings and pursued until I started the running rigging and looked at all the mistakes I had made. I took her to the breakers' yard without the Admiral knowing and dared to request 'central funding' to acquire another! Fortunately, the Admiral (and bank manager) likes things done correctly and, on listening to my explanation, duly illustrated with material from this illustrious community, the ranking officer agreed. So, onward and upward with boat 3 - the same boat, of course - I'll get there in the end. Some of the mistakes I made (I'm old enough not to be too embarrassed), I listened to some online hype about how the Billings instructions were woeful, so I didn't pay too much attention. Fast forward, I realised that they made much more sense when read in conjunction with some understanding of the plans and of the parts list - (I failed to get past the first unknown language and....yeah, another assumption. I should have remembered my student days: 'read the question'.

I can't decide whether my late father, a marine engineer of considerable skill (he was on the design team for the pumps on Britannia) will be rolling on the floor laughing or in agony. But, it is a great hobby and I shall try to be better. Best regards

This is one that was saved by my dad from an Uncles shed clean out. As you can see it needs a bit of a cleanup as it was sitting for year's in a shed.
this is the 564. my dad picked up the box and bits and pieces and gave it to me. then a few months later he was given the hull (as pictured) from my uncles widow. so luckily have the complete kit. not that it would have been an issue as i also have the old kit which would have the parts i needed to make up a complete kit. i am a couple of weeks (weather dependent) on getting my mancave closed up so can move all my hobbie stuff into that and have space to start back into the ships again.

My original effort isn't much better, but with a hull attached. More recently, my 2025 effort would have gotten an 'F' even as an apprentice - pictures were never intended to be a 'build log' - I wasn't even aware of their existence when I started - shown here only for illustrative purposes. It was intended as an ornamental gift to my spouse, but frankly, though it might pass a lay glance, on close up, it was awful and was thus decommissioned - the final straw was when my dog looked at me with a 'do you call that a boat look'. A couple of the images appear to be dated Nov 2024, but this is wrong, it was Nov 2025. I shall start a proper build log of my latest and current effort asap.
