I think you're looking at the bottom of the gallows and the top of the rail. If that were the cross piece it wouldn't be going through the middle of the pin. The cross piece is just let in 1 1/2" approx.

i am about to rip apart the stern of the Tecumseth and redo it. I keep arguing with myself but it will bug me if i don't do it right.
i just know what the purpose of these low cross pieces are for.

Sorry I brought it up I only have to do a couple but they are they main mast ones with the gallows and slotted sheaves. I'll delay as long as I can. Maybe someone has a definitive answer?

Thanks. I wish I had remembered to glue the coamings on before I planked though. This way was easier but doesn't look as nice.
