Bitt cross piece height

I think you're looking at the bottom of the gallows and the top of the rail. If that were the cross piece it wouldn't be going through the middle of the pin. The cross piece is just let in 1 1/2" approx.

i was looking through some photo archives and came across this
it is real thing the cross pieces are sitting low why i do not knpw

I've noticed a lot of them too. I'm wondering if I should go back and change it. A lot of work though.

i am about to rip apart the stern of the Tecumseth and redo it. I keep arguing with myself but it will bug me if i don't do it right.
i just know what the purpose of these low cross pieces are for.
 
Sorry I brought it up:) I only have to do a couple but they are they main mast ones with the gallows and slotted sheaves. I'll delay as long as I can. Maybe someone has a definitive answer?

it is one of those things you can not prove it is right nor can you prove it is wrong
