Black pearl build from China [COMPLETED BUILD]

I have found from past builds that completing the sails and mounting them to the yards is necessary to make sure that the mast measurements are correct. Measuring the lower mast as needed to set the lower full sail. I do the same moving up to the tops. I have found that the sails often do not set correctly to the sheet measurements. Are they the kit sails or did you make them your self.

For Christmas Santa brought me my next project. I am going to build the 1:54 scale Endeavour form OcCre. I will use the basic kit and Anatomy of a ship Endeavor book to add more detail. The exciting part for me this time I will also build the 1:143 scale mini kit of Endeavour from Mamoli. I will attempt to add as much detail as I add to the larger ship to the mini kit. My kit is sadly lacking the needed materials to rig the ship correctly. All that was supplied in the kit were ONLY 6mm single blocks. I need 3mm single and 3.5mm double blocks just to rig the cannons. I know I will need additional sizes to complete the rig for the yards and running rigging. Luckily I have all the needed sizes to complete the build. It is unfortunate that someone new to the ship building community would be very confused about what to do next when you need something as simple as double blocks. Also only two sizes on rigging line, one for running and one for standing.IMG_0009 (2).JPG

@Dave Teel I can not disagree with you Dave! However, let's not forget it is unlikely that a novice or beginner likely to choose this model as the first one. Kit manufactures really care about profit (in the first place)...but this is why we are here at SOS, we can always come to rescue. :cool:
 
I must admit that I have always upgraded every kit I have built. Even Panarts San Felipe needed some upgrades. Any one who wants a really fine completed model will invest in additional upgrades. So far on the Black Pearl I have spent $32.00 for wood coloring. $ 8.00 for brass pedestals. $38.00 for the wood base. $15.00 for correct blocks. $20.00 for additional rigging line. I am sure I am not done yet, but this is my hobby. I enjoy the challenge of improving where ever I can. Oh lets not forget the tools you can buy. Mirco Mark must have a separate truck set aside just for me. Sometimes I sit down and just look around my work station and enjoy the tools I see and remember the time "I built that" I go back and look at a ship I built years ago and think "How did I do That"? I really love building model ships.
 
Dave you so right about the kits and its the reason I started a log on mine to help others. you may want to look at the cannon rigging I have 3mm blocks I had to buy and they are to large to fit in the space unless I don't use hooks to connect them to the rings and even at that they will be touching when the cannons are in battery I found some 2mm blocks but they are in Russia and I'm not willing to get them from there as it will take forever here is a link to doubles the seller has singles as well https://www.ebay.com/itm/Double-blo...HKZxIi2OKKxUNyyaA:rk:22:pf:0&var=413288327612

I think I will just turn some on the lathe turn them round and file the flats on both sides and drill the holes as I cut them from the dowel

Good to know, Thanks. Anyone else know of a supplier who offered very small blocks. I had been buying them from :Warner woods west" but they went out of business. If any one out there has 2mm single or double blocks you don't need I'll buy them from you.
