I've been looking at these various blackening chemicals. Questions is, do they rub off on your fingers? Thank you.

yes it will
it depends on how long you leave it in the solution and how strong the solution is.

i use this stuff all the time if you do not dilute it with water it will blacked pewter instantly and the black will rub off on your fingers. If you dilute it in water the blackening is much slower it's easier to control. It will reach a point where it will blacken and not rub off as much.

best is to coat the piece with a clear sealant

Hi Ken s!
Degrease the brass- or copper parts with Spiritus, dishwasher or sandpaper before dyeing. Then into the bronzing agent. As soon as the pieces are black ( about 1 or 2 minutes) put them in a water bowl to stop the blackening. If blackened too long, the layer will flake off. There must not be a thick layer on the metal, but the metal has only a few micrometers thick oxydation.

Allow the blackened parts to dry and wipe with a soft cloth.

With best regards
Thomas
