I know this is an “Old Chesnut” but, I figured I’d document my build here. First thing I need to make clear, I’m very slow. So, it’ll take a while.

So far I’ve managed to pin the first keel half to the slip so I can start on the frames.

As I go along critique (constructive, flippant or downright abusive) always welcome.

Always nice to see a new build of the Bluenose, Peter.
In the next update of the —> List of BN builds <— I will ad you build.
Although it was started for the YQ- BN’s, you can see in the second part of the list that there are more Billing Boats BN II build logs. In the column ‘E’ is the hyperlink to the specific build-log. Perhaps they give you some extra information.
Looking forward to your progress.

Good morning all,

I have a question. The instructions tell me that working backwards fitting the ribs I need to fit the forward deck at rib 9. Likewise from rib 8 backwards fit the aft deck.

I can only figure that these deck sections are loose fitted, ie not glued so that they can be removed after planking, for painting the stanchions and inner gunwales which, I believe should be white?

Or am I wrong here?

Thank you
Peter

Hi Peter. Did some search to look with you.
Like in this manual:
BB600-Manual
and this 2 video on the web-site of BB:
Videos
they glue the deck.
With one difference: In the video of 'Model builder' they used 2 length wise half deck plates split in a front and aft deck and 'EZ Model Builder' there are a front and aft deck that is glued on both halfs together.

Hi Peter,
Yes, there are four deck sections which, I would think will be finished as teak. The question I’m thinking about is painting the stanchions and inner gunwales white would be far easier to paint them with the deck sections removed rather than fitted at this stage. As the only function I can figure with fitting them is to check alignment of the ribs? Maybe I’m just thinking like building sub assemblies on plastic kits.

Thank you
