Given that I have an increasing number of started and unfinished threads, it would be perhaps appropriate to start yet another one, which is related to @Martes' request of yesterday to take a closer look at the design of the British 6th-rate ship Athol from 1817. As for the historical background, I have admittedly not consulted any sources, but perhaps Martes (or someone else) would like to shed more light on this case.
Either way, from a design (in the geometric sense) point of view, it is about the parabolic design method, analogous to Dutch designs from the early 18th century, or Chapman's and American designs from the second half of the 18th century and later (see my relevant threads on this forum). Only the minor means of achieving essentially the same result may differ slightly.
