Well here we go, I have always found it is best to read the instructions first, and yet I still rush in. First mistake, I used hull planking for the deck sanded it down and stained it ok. Occre sent me replacement planks, thank you.

Polaris was my first kit and I rushed in a little too. It’s all good though, Occre supply enough planking to cover 2 boats. Looks awesome.

hi thanks, Occre sent me 10 planks so Im ok. The deck needs sorting I sanded it down to about 1mm going to put the thin decking on top.

decided to change the decking, cut individual planks and staggered 60mm 40 and 20. Looks better.20260928_140541.jpg20260927_172341.jpg20260927_171918.jpg20260929_134349.jpg

Hi, good to see someone else is also starting on the Occre Polaris. At the age of 59 and totally new to any form of modelling I have chosen this model to start my journey. As someone who is very interested in Arctic and Antarctic exploration during the ‘heroic’ age I’m hoping to work my way up to the Endurance and Fram (and maybe Goya) kits.

My only skill is patience so here goes…. Maybe I will start a log too.

I too am going to do the decking in staggered 60mm lengths instead of whole strips and pencil lines.

Hi, good luck with your new hobby, it's good that you have patience and I'm sure you will get much pleasure out of it. I just enjoy working through my mistakes and things seem to turn out OK in the end. The second planking hides a multitude of sins, I'm on that now and will take some photos for my log.
Start your log it may give you some incentive and see how our finished Polaris sets sail.
