I recently scratch-built a small industrial locomotive. These were short-haul workhorses at steel plants, shipyards, mines, forestry, and other industrial operations. They ranged from 300 hp to over 1000 hp and were common sights from the 1920s through to the 1960s. In the US, they were often known as Critters. I built mine from leftovers from other projects, as well as items scavenged from around the house. For example, the wheels were made of two sizes of metal washers glued together. The horn was made from a glue pipette. I have also included a detailed build log - 12 pages of photos, steps followed, challenges, and "bloopers". This is the PDF that is attached below.
