Building the Endurance

Slowly getting there. The basic hull is now complete and just checking how the rails & steering Mechanism fit. Some alterations were necessary but could be done. You may note I have changed the rails - After looking at the wreckage photo, I reailized my rail thickness was far too thick so I redid them in a smaller thickness timber

Looking good. I like the lights.
 
Doing some bits that need doing & I am feeling guilty about advoiding them. I found these lifeboats quite difficult the way they are set up in the kit. Previouse ones for le Hussard ( which were chinese from Aliexpress) we simpler and more professional (quite cheap too). Also started the chimney where I discarded the wood supplied with the kit and used a 12mm plastic pipe. I think it looks better

When doing the lifeboats I split the timber length ways so it was about 2.5mm wide rather than 5mm. That definitely made it easier to get around the curves of the boat frame. Regarding the chimney I have a lathe and turned a chimney which looked better than the supplied timber.
 
The Timber supplied & specified in the Kit is 3mm (1mm thick). I agree that this is probaly too large for the small boats hence the filler. but contrary to Le Hussard lifeboats, these will be painted so the the filler although annoying can be tolerated

Just as an FYI, she carried one 22.5 foot carvel built double ended boat and two 21 foot clinker built cutters. These are not too difficult to build from scratch with basic tools.
