Hello everyone,

As promised I start building the Agamemnon.
I hope for interesting discussions and lots of feedback.


After opening the box I was already confronted with a big disappointment. A part of the stern basic hull being broken!!!
I contacted the shop where I ordered the kit. He in turn has to contact his supplier who in turn has to contact the company Krick in Germany. And then Caldercraft in the UK... That will take a veeeeery long time I'm afraid. I will try to contact Caldercraft (Jotika) directly for a replacement...

In the meantime I will try to glue the broken piece...

And the instruction manual in German!
My prefered shop purchased the kit in Germany..... :(

In addition to the many contemporary drawings have you downloaded the original contract for a 64 of 1779 which would have had the same basic contract sent to Buckler's Hard for Agamemnon. https://www.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/rmgc-object-388110 It is missing pages, but there is also the contract for Nassau 1785, https://www.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/rmgc-object-459341 which is some years later, but close in overall dimensions. Nassau 160' 0" versus Ardent 160' 6" versus Agamemnon 160' 0" Should any dimensional questions arise, these two contracts should have answers.

This really shouldn’t be a problem at all, no need for disappointment. You can simply glue that piece in place when attaching the designated bulkhead. It doesn’t bear any structural load; its main purpose is just to help align and support the bulkhead during assembly. However, If you’re still concerned, you can reinforce it by gluing a small square strips on either side for added stability.

Hi Marc,

I hope you don’t mind if i pull up a chair too.
Agamemnon is one of my favorite kits, but i have the Diana to build first.
When I opened my Diana I found the keel and the entire panel was missing. I contacted Jotika directly and also through my local supplier, it took 3 months to replace but they were very helpful, just many businesses and postal groups involved.
Watching with great interest.

I received today some new tools (which I need eg Proxxon TBM220, the KT70 and same additional devices).
But, after opening the box of the Bench drill, I saw a broken on-off switch that was dangling loose in the box..
Hmmmm, so returning the drill to the Netherlands....

Seems like you are having no luck! I hope it improves.

The slots for the bulkheads are such a strange shape. Are the bulkheads profiles to match the slots?

By the way, I have the exact same Proxxon vice, and have found it is not suitable for fine milling work. It does not support work pieces very well. I use it for simple holding jobs on the bench and mounted a different vice to my X-Y table.

I will start with the bulkheads next week, so I will come back to this.

Good to know the vice is not up to par. I am not there yet. Which one did you mount on the X-Y table?

It’s probably not the best thing, but inexpensive and a big improvement over the proxxon vise. I had to create a mounting plate from aluminum to attach it to the cross-slide.
