I bought the Trailways Conestoga wagon kit and planed on using the wheels and hubs to construct a 1:12 scale model of the Model 1857 Six Mule Army Wagon. Other parts such as the bows and the cover were used as is but many bits and pieces had to be modified. The hubs had to be filled in and reworked to make linch pin hubs with actual working linch pins. The running gear was cut from new basswood and the wagon box was constructed from scratch. The brake ratchet and release was all scratch built. Also a copy of the original contract plans, text and line drawings was very helpful as well as numerous original photographs. The whole project was completed in 3 months. The wagon will be donated to the Monterey Pass Battlefield near Gettysburg, PA. Hope you like it.
