Scott Bradner made a drawing of one that is virtually identical to mine, although I never saw his drawing until after I carved mine. Bradner's Flying Cloud Plans and drawings are available on his website. I made mine close to the Blue Jacket offering (still available) only mine (and Bradner's) have her left hand holding the trumpet along with the right hand (a more natural position I thought), rather than with her left arm rather stiffly straight back along her left side. The only period references come from early paintings and print advertisements. I reduced the length of the carving slightly for her final mounting on the ship in order to better bring her into scale. I used the 19thc. meerschaum cigar holder pictured above (copied from a Michaelangelo painting) with the other photos as a reference for the wings.
By the way, it is carved from boxwood, not basswood, as originally mis-labeled. Basswood hasn't the density to take detailed carving at such a small scale.
