Copies of Plans

I recently purchased two kits of Flying Fish. One was missing the plans, so I went to a local store to make a copy. The store accidentally printed the first couple of sheets on thin vinyl rather than paper and let me have them for free. This has proved to be a neat solution to torn and crumpled plans. The vinyl lies flat, allowing more accurate measurements, it does not tear, and is durable during a long-term build. It can be rolled, and most creases disappear quickly. What’s more, despite the vinyl’s flexibility, as far as I can tell by comparing the copies to the paper originals, the plans do not distort.

Hope someone finds this tip useful!

If you like vinyl, you're going to love mylar! :D

For my present model I glued a copy of the lines drawing to a piece of MDF using rubber cement. Made it MUCH easier to transfer information.

We have a company here in town that can make distortion free copies. Relative to the price of a kit they are dirt cheap: $1.00 or so. Before starting a model It’s wise to make several copies of the drawings.
