Hello everybody.
I am currently building the Falconet Yawl as a way of looking at different ways to construct a larger scale clinker boat. I own a couple of 14 1/2 foot clinker beach boats, so I have a natural interest in these boats. I am looking to scratch build a Cornish pilot gig, and having scoured the internet I have managed to find only one useful piece of material. Does any body know of any scale drawings or books that cover the subject? Many thanks Ian

When I was building my first small boat, I had no idea how many car parts it contained, from fasteners to steering components. Regular hardware stores didn't have everything, so I started looking for suitable auto parts. After a couple of unsuccessful orders, I finally found store flagship one . I can't say that they have absolutely everything, but the parts I needed arrived quickly and without surprises. For such non-standard projects, where reliability is important, a normal auto parts store is really half the battle.
It's fascinating to see projects like the Cornish Pilot Gig build, with all the attention to detail and historical accuracy. It's inspiring to see themes like these, even if you're hesitant to take on something like this yourself.

Don’t have access to the book to check it out but I believe that the noted British ship modeler Malcom Darch built a model of one of the large Cornish pilot gigs and detailed construction in his book, Modeling Maritime History.
