customs wants a "toxicity report"

Ordered the Pen Duick model kits with some paint from Artesania Latina - and customs wanted a toxicity report from me - referencing all kinds of TCSA docs and numbers. So I sent em a word doc stating that it was a wooden model kit with some acrylic paints included - and to please remove the paints if they are the issue requiring a toxicity report for a wooden model boat. I added that they could give the paints to their kids for their hobbies - hope it was enough.

Is this a new name for bribe? Or do they want you to make a contribution to the new golden throne room?
Don't think so. Just some confusing docs asking questions whether or not anything in the package might conflict in certain ways with the content of a bunch of other docs, referenced by numbers. And a slew of various abreviations I did not know.

So I answered best I could.

Anyway, they were asking for arkane stuff and in such a way, that they very likely knew full well, that neither I, nor anyone else, could provide answers. We will see.

Bureaucracy to the extreme... you want to kill any foreign trades, here the way to go. What bother me is that it just annoyed the end-users -- on purpose-- but brings only peanuts to the treasury.

Here's what I know right now - it left Memphis last night. But - there's no delivery date and no mention as to whether or not my statement was accepted. So - I do not know if it's on its way, or if it's merely being moved between customs hubs.

BE VERY AFRAID!

US custom destroyed Christian Zimmerman’s piano because it smelt of explosives, after he had made anti-American political statements.

''Shortly after 9/11, his piano was confiscated by customs officials at New York's JFK airport, who thought the glue smelled funny. They subsequently destroyed the instrument.''

We have a some joke in Poland - you go to bazaar and buy uranium from Chechens when you need it.
Maybe that glue was "enriched" ROTF

Well, I have only posted pro American stuff. Things like Trump is a lying antidemocratic SOB. The worst thing besides foxnews, that has ever happened to our once great country. So, I guess I am safe.

Fri morning. Same status as on Wed. Tried to query, but its like talking to a machine (of course) that knows no more than I do. It just rephrases the same useless info in different ways, without actually answering the question I kept putting to it ... "did it clear customs?"

It did say it is "in transit" though. However, that could mean that they are still processing it through customs. Or it could mean it cleared and is on its way. Which is why I kept pointlessly asking ... did it clear customs ... to no avail.

It must have cleared. Maybe. Surely????

Aha - I have an ETA now, it's still in Memphis, but ... the FIT status changed from "In transit" to "Customs cleared". So looks like it wasn't actually in transit, except if you think of in transit as a state where it hasn't been lost nor delivered.

Anyway - good bit of news, having an ETA and clearing customs. I guess my note worked.

Cheers.

Haha, anyway in a few days you can start building!

Don't know anything about the toxicity issue, but if it makes you feel better, I built the AL Pen Duick a few years ago and it's a fun build and a handsome boat when you're done. As I remember there were a few questionable things concerning accuracy of on-deck components, but since I'm not overly concerned about absolute authenticity, I happily overlooked them. So I think you'll enjoy it once it arrives.

Thanks. Glad to hear that. Was looking for a "handsome" ship to display.

FedEx has to be the worst shipper I've ever had to deal with... I guarantee you will be hit with a "Brokerage / Clearance Entry Fee." That's if they even get the package to you...

FedEx owes me thousands at this point for lost packages and overcharges. I'll never use them again. 0 out of 5 stars
