Next Monday August 14th, the 3-masts schooner ‘Oosterschelde’ starts in Plymouth UK sailing around the world following Charles Darwin’s voyage aboard HMS Beagle two centuries ago.
This is there website:
A project where they plan to call at each of the 32 berths where Darwin set foot. And where they let young people from different countries work together with local organizations. As a team, they have to get a nature conservation project off the ground within a week. Preferably for animal species that Darwin was already amazed about.
Using the ‘Oosterschelde’, a Dutch sailing monument from 1918, as a floating laboratory and media platform, they will harness the legacy of Charles Darwin’s passion for natural history to engage worldwide audience and advance global conservation.
Through the very interesting site you can read all about this trip and follow them.
To complete the story, a photo of a model of the HMS Beagle, that Piet Sanders @pietsan is building and almost completed:
Regards, Peter
