Hi all,
I'm working on rigging for my 1:150 HMS Victory and found rigging dead eyes very fiddly aand hard to get a consistent results. Any suggestions.
I came up with this solution that works quite well 1000019571.jpg
I'm tying each dead eye to the main line first and the temp glueing to a 3mm dowel. This allows me to tie them together. I then just snap them off the dowel to remove.
Thought I'd share to help other new moddlers

That’s an interesting approach. The glue doesn’t tear up the beckets around the deadeyes?
There is minimal damage to the thread and because the glue is inside/between the dead eyes it's quite hidden from view. I'll post some more photos as I progress the build.

Is this a scratch build or a kit? 1:150 scale is super small so has a ton of challenges for you due to the tiny size so I was wondering if there was a kit at that scale worth investigating.

Yes it's small. A Chinese kit for just $50. Minimal instructions so you have to do research as you build. I'm new to this so am using these models to get experience before I take on larger and more complex models.

Good idea to start with a minimal investment as you have done. No matter what your next project there is often a wealth of contemporary information that will help you from drawings to contracts. There are also build logs here that are often great sources of what to do and what not to do that will make your model building life easier and more fun.

I've always used a paper clip bent to a sort of squared off C shape. Put one end in the lower deadeye and the other in the one you are going to attach to the shroud and then loop the shroud around the deadeye and secure it. If you are consistent about the holes and label the shrouds so you reeve them in the same order, the results should be good.

Sounds good but distance between the deadeye blocks is different as shrouds go on the angle from the mast. The deadeye blocks at bottom and the top are parallel to the base line.

Hello Rob and Everyone building their Deadeyes for their model.
This is an interesting "Thread", some great ideas, the attached is my version. Some might say it's over the top, but my premise is, if I can draw to scale, then I know exactly how I can build it and what steps are involved. So I off the attached pdf drawing and pictures (Word document) as more information. Good luck with yours, Richard.
Sorry the jpeg pictures on the left and right did not convert. The picture of Lady Washington visiting Vancouver BC was instrumental in my drawing design
