I am considering planking the deck of the ship I am currently building before installing it.
I feel it makes things easier since you can work flat.
I usually in the various build logs that the deck is glued first and them planking takes place.
Any advice on this aspect?

Planking a deck after the deck is installed is usually not a problem because there are no obstacles, and you can usually reach the deck. As long as the deck has been pre-shaped and has the proper camber, you could glue down all the planks, except the ones at the edges near the bulwark. This planks you could trim of custom fit after the deck is installed. If you post pictures of the model as it looks now, we could see what the situation is and see what might make it more difficult to install deck planks.

I think this is a pure question of preference by the modelers.
Take a look at Andrey Kudins build of his scratch build of the Le Fleuron - he is preparing the complete deck outside and install it afterwards.
On kit models most often the deck planks are installed insitu.
If you are preparing the deckplanking outside you have to adjust the height of the deck (reducing the height of bulkheads) by the thickness of the sheets, which you use as base for your planking.

Thanks Uwe, let me look at Andrey's log

Andrey is showing often his work with videos, so it is not easy to find, but f.e. this post here:

take a look at earlier videos also

On my models I prefer to plank the deck prior to installation. To do this I plank the deck in two halves, shape as necessary then slot them into place. The last plank to be installed covers the joint.

Thanks Graham and I do agree with you
