DKM Battleship Bismarck by Trumpeter 1:200 with Pontos set

Wow, I'm blown away!

Thank you so much for this fantastic feedback. It makes me very proud and I'm absolutely delighted. I'm also so glad that my build log served as reading material for tea and cake time. A real pleasure!

Excellent build. Incredible detailing. Such a pity that an old fashioned string-bag plane of the British Fleet Air Arm managed to disable the original with one lucky torpedo.

It's truly ironic that a small aircraft made of wood and canvas could disable such a powerful warship. It shows that the military failed to recognize the signs of the times. The era of battleships had come to an end.

Good for including the swastikas, a real part of the looks and personality of the ship and a part of history that should be remembered and not forgotten. Like the rebel flag from the US civil war (war of Northern aggression) here in the South. Soldiers and sailors from the losing sides of wars were no less brave and valiant.

Very well written. For me, it was never in doubt to paint the swastika to depict the ship historically accurately, even though they aren't allowed to be displayed publicly here in Germany. But as you rightly point out, they are an integral part of the ship, just as they are part of my country's dark past.

Soldiers died for these symbols, and their sacrifice should be remembered, regardless of which side they were on.

What is under the hemispherical shapes on each side of the funnel(towards the front)? They look like they fold back like the convertable roof for a car. Even the super-cheap models of Bismarck and Tirpitz (like I've built) have them.

Beneath these spherical covers, which could be opened downwards, there are searchlights.

And once again, thank you so much for all the praise. The effort I put into this model has more than paid off.

Exquisite model Joelle, I shall definetely refer to this thread when I eventualy start building mine.

Kind regards,
Herby63

Thanks a lot, Herby. I'm really looking forward to seeing your model.
If you have any more questions about the Bismarck, feel free to ask. I have a lot of information about the ship. ;)
