Ship hulls have more curves than Barbie and it is unusual to find an occasion where a bar clamp is applied to parallel surfaces. The picture below shows some modifications intended to support clamping of non-parallel surfaces. Most use wedges of pencil eraser (carefully avoiding the British term to avoid confusing those across the pond) or wood. On one I have cut the tip off a spring clip with a pivoting head and stuck it to the clamp face. The aim is to provide softer and greater surface contact with less slipping.
Mixed success. Still under development.
