Sorry if this is a little bit of a downer. Burt, I think its important to pass this along. I collected kits for 25 years in anticipation of my retirement. I did build some along the way but I saved the best kits for now. But now mother nature has played a cruel trick on me. Just when I was getting into my first kit my hands developed shakes. It wasn't bad at first and with concentration I could overcome it. But now it's progressing so I'm having to get rid of my best kits and step back to kits that are slightly smaller and have minimal rigging which is the one thing I can no longer do without efforts for more than a few minutes at a time.

My message to all of you who are younger. DON'T WAIT. Enjoy the hobby while you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gave your post a ‘like’ …… not for what happened to you but for the fact you are sharing your story with us! You don't want this to happen to you, or anyone else. I hope you can still build the necessary kits. Think about the possibilities that are still available. I hope the best for you.
Regards, Peter

There are a lot of fascinating ships to be built that don't require much ( if any ) rigging. If you truly love the nautical theme and the idea of constructing a beautiful ship model have a look at what's on the market.

If you haven't, I would suggest a visit to a neurologist. Also cut out caffeine and perhaps try taking magnesium supplements. There can be things you can do to reduce the shaking.

A good friend had a bad case of shakes. He found that the hospital at the University of West Virginia has a program for treating these. It involves ultrasonics. They recently treated one side and it was completely successful. He will go back later this year for the other side. Check it out.
