I love populating my models with at scale figures. It adds life and a sense of realism. The first time was with figures at 1/64 for Revenge, which I liked and enjoyed painting.

When I saw Drydock advertised that they released various scale figures in a pack of 19... I just could not refrain from ordering a set in 1/72 and 1/96 scale. After great anticipation, I received my parcel a 1 hour ago.

My first impression was... what is that! Is that it? What a disappointment... maybe my expectations were too high but frankly at those scales it is a hard sell. The size is just too small and lack resolution/definition at 1/96. The 1/72 barely pass the bar. Drydock is a reputable distributer and is not at fault, but the person/company making those should reconsider selling at those scales. They will just create disappointment. I just feel I was ripped off at the current price point (I may be a little harsh here - disappointment speaking?).

I would recommend avoiding... at least at those scales.

First time I get 3D printed... usually buying casted. Maybe it is my expectations... but I'm usually generous and realistic. BTW the pictures are taking very close.

of course... here it is.

Unfortunate that the product is not to your liking. I myself when making some 1/72 Civil War dioramas have made many conversions of existing available figures. Looking at these figures I would probably pass on them myself but that's just me. Thank you very much for posting those photos for the rest of us to see. Some may order, some may not due to your sharing.

After my previous post I remembered that some years ago I made a small "deck" showing the three types of cannon on the C.S.S. Alabama. I bought the excellent book by Andrew Bowcock," CSS Alabama, Anatomy of a Confederate Raider", and used his excellent drawings as my source material. I scaled them down to 1/72 and made the barrels mainly with my old hand drill! I don't own a lathe - yes, I know, it shows!
The smallest one is the 32 pounder smoothbore (she carried six total), one 7" Blakely rifled gun, and one 8" smoothbore. They show from first to last. The figures are commercially available ones, mainly Airfix's old artillery crerw. I gave them CSA uniforms although I don't know if the enlisted men wore those.
All the carriages, implements and fittings are also scratchbuilt. The "deck" is a small strip of wood with the "planks" drawn on (I had to hurry to get this finished for the display).
I hope the picture quality is acceptable.
