Greetings,
Compared to others on this site, I am a level 1 amateur. That being said, I enjoy building these boats and taking them out to the local pond to sail them with my grand kids.

No. Kite string controlled.
We caught some nice wind for a while, then too a bit too much and we flipped. Still had fun.
