This is my first post on sos so a bit of a learning curve.
i found this kit as part of a job lot from ebay.
The hull frames and other bits were missing but luckily there were good plans.
A bit of research on the internet found bsome info on the 17th century Dutch Galoit Ships. These ships were flat bottomed, shallow draft ideal for trading in the North and Baltic seas.
I think this model is quite rare. One difficulty to overcome because the instructions are in French. However Google translate came to the rescue.

Oh Great - one of the rare Gérard Schmitt kits!
This one, maybe the only one of the time 40 years ago, who made kit in the bigger scale 1:50, f.e. Corsair Americain Le Prince de Neufchâtel, Le Tonant and others
This will be very interesting to see your work on this old-timer kit - I will follow with big interest

This is my first attempt at double planking. I glue and temporarily pinned each mahogany strip to the hull. I found it quite difficult in tapering planks to allow a good finish at the bow and stern. The pins are removed and the holes disappear after sanding.

Hi All, i have been working steadily on the mast, sails, and rigging.
The shrouds and ratlines took over 1000 clove hitches.
Sails were cut out of a preprinted sheet. Edges sewn using a machine.
These edges were then edged with cord by hand.
The rigging was developed using a detailed drawing.
This took some time as it was very complex.
I am impressed that the design and building of this ship in the 17th century must have required a lot of knowledge on the structure of rigging and sails.
