I first saw this model a long time ago at the maritime museum (Het Steen) in Antwerp, as it existed back then.
Recently, I found the Mantua kit at a very attractive price and decided to take a chance on it.
Mantua claims this is a replica of the No. 2, which was lost during the bombardment of Antwerp.

However, that is incorrect.
The original No. 2 was a large-model gunboat of the older type, whereas the Mantua kit is supposed to represent a large-model gunboat of the newer type.
The model is also too long, and the hull shape does not appear correct at first glance.
What was meant to be a simple "quick project" is threatening to become a major undertaking...

With objectnummer A.1211(02) The N°2 could have looked like this.

I haven't found a decent drawing of the large, old-style model yet.

And I think this is where the first discrepancy pops up.

Determining the length-to-beam ratio and the scale.

The Dutch and French drawings are virtually identical.
On the French drawing, the length between the stems is 18 meters.

On the Dutch drawing, this is 18el.

During that period, an *el* was equivalent to 1 meter.

After considerable measuring, calculating, and analysis, I arrive at a length-to-beam ratio of 1:2.85 (average value).
This implies a scale of 1:41 if the kit's frame widths are retained and the keel piece is shortened.
Alternatively, it implies a scale of 1:37 if the keel piece is kept as is and the frames are widened.
The keel piece will be retained, and new frames will need to be made.

However, the plywood keel piece does require some initial modification.
