I have always loved Dutch maritime art, both prints and paintings, especially those of the Van de Veldes. However, my appreciation was limited to reproductions in books. By chance, I got to see a show of Dutch art while in Fort Worth's Kimball museum which contained a number of maritime prints and, to my delight, Van de Velde oils. They were glorious. I am sharing some of my pix here in case others on this forum also have an interest in this period.20241109_150725.jpeg20241109_150718.jpeg20241109_145312.jpeg20241109_145306.jpeg20241109_145208.jpeg20241109_145025.jpeg20241109_144924.jpeg20241109_150859.jpeg

Thx for sharing, the top two pen drawings are great interest their detail. These are from Ludolf Bakhuizen one of the other 17th century maritime master printers.
The two drawings of work in the yard are also very nice.

No idea if it was a technique the Dutch introduced, but the dramatic use of cloud shadows, to create a sense of depth (in their paintings) has impressed me since childhood. Remarkable.
