I am back to the imaginary galleon, Anne of Flowers. I left off at the "hull finished" stage for a long while as i wished to take it on the plane to show to my mother, for whom she is named . I managed to do so last month, just before she passed away . I am fitting the foremast, needing something to do in my sadness . She loved roses and fleur de lys, a true English regal Rose .20250327_231113.jpg

Thank you Roger. The case is already built , i usually do before i get to this stage, allthough i leave the top unglued so that i can pull the ship in and out on the cradle you can see with it's tall handles. I have a log fire so there is often a lot of dust , especially in winter.20250206_141843.jpg

Sorry for your loss. My mother recently passed away also before I could see her once last time. I hope the ship helps you work through your grieving.

I know how it feels, my mother passed on in 1969, near 60 years ago now. Still miss her but you will retain cherished memories…semper fi.

My late F-in-Law was a genuine tough guy. Not a blowhard or a bully, but a Depression baby and a combat Marine ( Korea- Pusan, Inchon, Chosin). He was the quiet old style California type, but no nonsense. He surprised me when my mom died, by telling me "You will think of your mother every day for the rest of your life." He was absolutely right. We are only issued one, and they are irreplaceable. May Eternal light shine upon her.... Peace.

Thank you all for your thoughts, they are comforting to me. I am afraid that as much as i love ship modeling , and as much as i have been enjoying this build, the passing of my mother means that i find my efforts a very small , small, reflection of what i have lost.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you were able to say goodbye to your mother at the end.
Mine died in a hospital during the height of the COVID pandemic. They wouldn't let me say goodbye to her. It was like a punch to the heart that will hurt me for the rest of my life.

Covid was a difficult time for the world, we are still learning some of the lessons, and it was worse for some, like yourself. She would not have wanted you to suffer forever, perhaps you can let her go now. I hope so for your sake and send blessings at this winter season to you. Be at peace.
