There are lots of parts shared between kits as a cost cutting measure. This is definitely true for Corel. Decorations, cannon carriages, and most basic rigging parts are typically copied from one kit to another. Usually figureheads are not copied, except for the examples posted above, because they are usually too varied in style form ship to ship. It makes one more thing for the kit basher to have to replace so their models are made a bit more accurate. Since most cast or carved decorations are very difficult or impossible for the kit builder to replace or scratch build, I wish kit makers would spend more on making the decorative parts of the model detailed and accurate. I have no trouble replacing blocks, rigging line, timber, or even altering the hull structure, but cheaply made or incorrect decorations can really destroy the look of a good model for those familiar with how the vessel should look. The Chinese vendors, specifically ZHL, have exceptionally high quality wooden decoration kits available for a few ships. I wish they made more like the ones they made for HMS Sovereign of the Seas (now discontinued), HMS Royal Caroline, and Wasa. They are expensive, but well worth it for those builders who, like myself, can not carve intricate carvings, or do not wish to invest the time to do so.
